Local rattlesnakes regularly frequent this bird feeder, in the hopes of snaring some lunch. It’s not just birds who fall victim to the snakes, according to Kurt, but squirrels and other small animals as well. A braver species than one might assume, Kurt also reported that quail usually refuse to be intimidated by the snakes. Instead of flying off, they tend to dance around them.
