Kansas City Royals pitcher Edinson Volquez didn’t receive the news of his father’s passing until after he took the mound in Game 1 of the World Series. Daniel Volquez died of heart problems earlier on Tuesday just before his son was set to take the mound in his first World Series start. Various reports (including ESPN) said that Volquez heard the tragic news on the way to the ballpark. But those who were close to the Royals organization had a different story to report.
