Appropriate (2015) - Trailer (Drama)

Went and saw a new play at the Mark Taper in Los Angeles last night called "Appropriate". It was about 3 hours long with 2 intermissions. The play was written by a black playwright and has an all-white cast and deals with a a family coming together to sell off their grandfather's belongings and Southern plantation and ultimately discover a book of photographs depicting the execution of black slaves on the plantation. The playwright, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, has written a number of socially conscious plays and he is currently in Residence at Julliard School.

Appropriate follows the dysfunctional Lafayette family as they return to a decaying plantation mansion in Arkansas to battle over their recently deceased father’s inheritance. Soon after uncovering a relic buried deep in the recess of their family’s past, decades of resentment burst through centuries of historical sin in this biting, new comedic drama from one of America’s most gifted young playwrights.
