Venezuela’s Maduro Lands in Suriname, Meets with President Bouterse

Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro began his historic tour of the eastern Caribbean nations with a visit to Suriname on Friday. Accompanied by his Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez, Suriname has played an important role in UNASUR and is also a member of the oil alliance PETROCARIBE, in which Caribbean nations can buy oil at preferential prices. Maduro held talks with the President of Suriname Desi Bouterse on the development of new forms of cooperation, the exchange of rice and alternative energies, the more efficient use of energy and financial mechanisms to fund new development projects. teleSUR
