Study: Prolonged Sitting Not Linked To Increased Risk Of Death

A new study that tracked the behavior of more than 5,000 people over 16 years has found that, contrary to current beliefs, sitting for long periods does not correlate to an increased mortality risk.

Sitting for long periods has been linked to an earlier death, but a new study has found that this may not be true after all. 
Melvyn Hillsdon, one of the authors, states, "Our study overturns current thinking on the health risks of sitting and indicates that the problem lies in the absence of movement rather than the time spent sitting itself.”
