Brazil: Lawmakers Move to Oust Lower House Speaker

A group of Brazilian lawmakers from several political parties has presented a motion to strip Lower House Speaker Eduardo Cunha of his seat in Parliament. The petition was signed by 49 deputies. Cunha has been instrumental in the attempt to impeach President Dilma Rousseff. He has come under pressure in recent days due to his links with a corruption network and the discovery of millions of dollars in secret Swiss bank accounts. At the same time, Rousseff has warned of further destabilization efforts. Some have warned of a “constitutional coup” similar to the one that took place in Paraguay in 2012. teleSUR
