The Day of Indigenous Resistance was marked in Santiago de Chile by a march led by Mapuche indigenous communities, which were demanding the demilitarization of lands in the southern region of Araucania, as well as the release of prisoners held for political reasons. Other groups joined the protest, including students, the movement for homosexual liberation, and workers unions. The march that began peacefully was dispersed with water cannons and teargas as some objects were thrown at the police. teleSUR
