After X-rays revealed a metal ring in a sick dog’s stomach, veterinarians in Texas were able to retrieve it and determine that it as a penny whose middle section had been dissolved by the dog’s stomach acids, releasing zinc into her body and making her anemic.

Veterinarians in Texas uncovered a series of surprises when they attempted to treat a mysteriously sick dog named Miss Balie. 
X-rays of the Shih Tzu’s stomach revealed a ring-like object. When it was removed during an endoscopy, the staff at North Houston Veterinary Specialists discovered that it was actually a penny whose center had been dissolved by the dog’s stomach acids.
