Bizarre drone footage has emerged from China of hundreds of metres of gridlocked traffic as a huge 50-lane motorway was stacked solid approaching checkpoints coming into Beijing.

The video, captured on G4 Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Expressway on Monday afternoon, shows hundreds of cars lining up across the lanes as they queue for hours to enter the capital.

According to local reports the traffic built up from the early afternoon due to a combination of foggy weather and a huge influx of travellers returning from a week of holiday for China's national day (1st-7th October).
