Colombia: Leftist Parties Stigmatized

A month before local and regional elections that will be held in Colombia on October 25, leftist parties denounce intimidation from armed groups. As the Patriotic Union reemerges after enduring heavy state repression, candidates speak of a pervasive fear in the country due to the lack of political guarantees and the stigmatization of leftist movements. They also denounce the close links between paramilitary groups and powerful political interests and describe illegal mechanisms used to throw elections such as the double voter registration.
