Bolivians Celebrate Hague Decision

Thousands of Bolivians have gathered outside the Presidential Palace to celebrate the decision of the International Court of Justice to hear Bolivia’s case for access to the Pacific Ocean. Bolivia lost its coastline in the War of the Pacific with Chile in the late nineteenth century. Access to the coast could boost trade and bring down the cost of exports, which compared to Chile are 55% more expensive. Both Bolivia and Chile will argue their cases before the Court, but the entire process could take up to five years to resolve. Dimitri O’Donnell reports from La Paz for teleSUR
