Honduras: Women’s Groups Dispute Government Crime Figures
  • 9 years ago
Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez says that violent crime has decreased by almost 25% in the last two years. Researchers and women’s organizations, however, dispute this claim. They say that the number of women murdered has increased over 200% in comparison to last year. There has also been a large increase in the murder of minors. According to a study for the Center for Women’s Rights, many murders of women don’t appear in official statistics. The media constantly repeats government figures, but the reality for Honduran people is much different. Gerardo Torres reports from Central America for teleSUR
