Global Seed Vault’s First Withdrawal Related To Syrian Conflict

The Global Seed Vault is processing its first withdrawal request which was made by the International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas, or ICARDA, a seed bank that was forced to move to Beirut, Lebanon, from Syria in 2012 due to area conflicts.

The conflict in Syria has led to the first withdrawal from the Global Seed Vault in the Arctic.
The request was made by the International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas, or ICARDA, which is one of eleven seed facilities responsible for maintaining global crop biodiversity. 
According to Reuters, nearly 130 boxes of seeds containing thousands of samples will be ha
