Recent research which modeled a pattern of shallow jets of air above and below cloud level could help to explain the mystery of Saturn’s giant north pole hexagon.

Scientists have tried to determine the cause of Saturn’s mysterious north pole hexagon since it was discovered in the 1980s, and now they are getting closer to solving the puzzle.

A recently published study has revealed that variabilities in the shallow jets of air above and below cloud level can produce a closer simulation of the hexagon than previous attempts.

The team believes that disturbances in the current, such as from other air flows, form the hexagon and bottom winds help to maintain the shape and
