Peru – Indigenous Groups Protest Extractive Industries in Amazon

Protests against extractive industries in the Amazon Rain Forest continue to be held by indigenous groups who forced a work stoppage in the oil field known as Lot 192. After the government cut off dialogue with them, they initiated an action that has cut production for the last nine days in the field that normally produces 10,000 barrels a day. Kichwa and Achuarcommunities are demanding land deeds as well as economic and development benefits from oil production. They want companies such as Occidental Petroleum to begin to repay the immense damage caused by their pollution. Rael Mora reports from Lima for teleSUR
