Ecuador: New Law Favors Small-Scale Producers
  • 9 years ago
Ecuadoran flower vendors based in a home workshop are taking advantage of a new law that allows them to do business in supermarkets. The law requires that six percent of total merchandise comes from small and medium-scale producers. Furthermore, supermarket chains are now required to devote fifteen percent of each shelf level to local products. The new law, along with measures such as local production fairs, is building consumer confidence in goods produced in Ecuador. Liz Sherffius reports from Quito for teleSUR.
