Ben Thompson (Guy Prescott) is looking to kill Deputy Marshal Hardin (Sterling Hayden) and his mentor, Fletcher, for putting him in prison. Ambushing Fletcher with a shotgun, Thompson misses Hardin who vows revenge on Thompson by tracking him down and killing him with the same shotgun that killed his mentor. On the hunt for Thompson, Hardin comes across the gun-toting hellcat Abbey (Yvonne DeCarlo) and his bounty hunter rival Reb Carlton (Zachary Scott).
