Colombia: Analysts Point to Failed Economic Model

Colombian economists and senators are raising concerns over the future of the country’s weakened economy. Some point to the failure of the country’s economic model, one that has prioritized foreign investment and has replaced national production with disproportionate imports. A currency devaluation of 60% as compared to last year is one of the world’s highest. The government says the devaluation is a way to strengthen exports, but hard hit farmers and other sectors say the strong dollar worsens their situation.
