Since launching the Malaysiakini's citizen journalism course two years ago, the independent news website has helped empower more than 180 Malaysians to be the voice of their communities.

Last weekend, this pioneering group of citizen journalists had a reunion of sorts at the inaugural Citizen Journalism Conference 2010, that was held at the Central Market Annexe in Kuala Lumpur.

The conference, timed in conjunction with May 3 World Press Freedom Day, was the first of its kind in Malaysia.
