Colombian Human Rights Defenders Receive Special Recognition
  • 9 years ago
Amid increasing attacks on human rights defenders in Colombia in the first half of 2015, leaving 69 dead, some groups and leaders have received special recognition for their dedication in pursuit of truth, justice and reparations. Defenders habitually face the economic interests of multinational corporations, the government, oligarchy, and paramilitary forces. They are often stigmatized before being killed. As part of the peace process, social leaders are demanding that the government put an end to the attacks. Natalia Margarita reports from Bogota for teleSUR
