Lufthansa pilots' two-day strike cancels hundreds of flights

A strike by Lufthansa pilots cancelled more than 80 long-haul flights out of Germany on Tuesday, and hundreds of short-haul journeys are likely to be affected on Wednesday.

The pilots’ two-day walkout is the 13th strike in 18 months in a long-running dispute with Lufthansa management over early retirement benefits, pay and cost cuts.

The airline wants to lower its spending to better compete with budget firms like Ryanair.

Strikes are said to have cost Lufthansa 100 million euros so far this year.
