The newly sworn in caretaker president of Guatemala, Alejandro Maldonado, in calling on all cabinet members and other top government officials to resign, is seeking to prevent the new government from being the target of the citizens protest movement that drove Otto Perez Molina from office. Attention is now centered on Sunday's elections, with authorities calling on citizens to vote to reduce abstentionism. The Conservative Party is expected to win the presidency but other races could be tight. Gerardo Torres reports from Guatemala City. telesur
