Argentina: U.S. Court Ratifies Central Bank Immunity
  • 9 years ago
Argentina obtained a favorable ruling yesterday in its long legal conflict with the so-called vulture funds. A previous decision by New York judge Thomas Griesa was reversed on appeal. According to his ruling, the Central Bank’s assets could be seized as compensation to the plaintiffs. The appeals court denied that the Central Bank has waived its sovereign immunity and that as a result the hedge funds could move forward with a lawsuit targeting the bank’s assets. According to yesterday’s ruling, sovereign immunity is still on the table and can be invoked to avoid liability. teleSUR
