The European Union is built on the idea of free movement within its borders and policies that are in synch.But faced with the arrival of hundreds of thousands of people fleeing war and poverty — many of them Syrian refugees — the countries have dealt very differently with the crisis. Some countries, such as Germany, have offered aid to those in need while others, such as Hungary, have attempted to lock down their borders.
