GOCE will be launched from Plesetsk in northern Russia. Founded in 1957, Plesetsk began as the world's first operational intercontinental ballistic missile base, and later was used to place mainly military satellites into polar orbit. Since then, Plesetsk has become one of the busiest launch bases in the world for all kinds of satellites!
