Plot: Vasu (Kamal Haasan), is a Telugu man living in Dona Paula, Near Panaji Goa. He resides with his family which includes his father and mother. Sapna (Rati Agnihotri), who speaks Hindi, is in love with Vasu. The two confess their love for each other. But things does not go well, as the two families have disputes and issues with each other. When the two families learn about the love blossoming between the two, they get very angry and agitated. They try various ways to keep them apart, but fail every time. Hence they decide to plot a plan. They inform Vasu and Sapna to stay away from each other for a year without any conversation, and after one year, if they still love each other, the families will get them married. Vasu moves to Hyderabad and is working with G. Haribabu (Asrani), who is a Chartered Accountant. There he comes in contact with a widow, Sandhya (Madhavi), who teaches him Hindi. Meanwhile, Sapna's mother introduces Chakram (Rakesh Bedi), a family friend to Sapna. But Sapna shows no interest in him. Misunderstandings create between the two, when on a trip to Mangalore, Vasu learns that Sapna got married. In order to clear his confusion, Vasu comes back to Goa.
