Ecuador: State of Emergency Declared Over Volcanic Eruption

Ecuadoran President Rafael Correa declared a national state of emergency in response to so-far minor eruptions at the Cotopaxi volcano, located near Quito. The measure allows aid to be allocated and emergency relief measures adopted if a major eruption occurs. Authorities say 325,000 people could be at risk, but that a full scale eruption is unlikely. Nevertheless, the potentially affected area is on high alert and some residents have been evacuated. Liz Scherffius reports from Quito. teleSUR
