LABRADOR LABRATORIES is a project born in Tel-Aviv in winter 2009. The debut album was recorded in only one week by founding member, Tom Gottlieb. In his myspace account Gottlieb decided to make up a character behind the sounds - this is how "Labra" was born, an L.A. stripper's son and a Burmese monk, who was raised by his Serbian grandmother and first picked up the guitar at age 21, in prison. The talented musician with the unusual life story quickly became a highly popular Myspace persona - a great many hits and subscriptions to the page, and articles around the web praised the album. That same winter, Gottlieb formed a band and started touring Israel and later on, Europe.
Four years gone by, and LABRADOR LABRATORIES released two more albums while the band continued to perform live, in addition to have songs placed in Films and TV shows. With the second album, the project which started out as one man's creation, becomes a joint project when the bands' keyboard player, Noam Vardy, joins the Labra ship as writer and a co-producer. The two record everything independently, and play most of the instruments.
Folk pop spiced with blues, psychedelic and Americana which blends organically to their original sound with The 60's California sound, all are very eminent forces in LABRADOR LABRATORIES' music. All goes together with layers of electronic music and influences from Brazilian rock to Lebanese pop. All creates their innovative sound.
