"esther and wataru" is a duo. Their common music backgrounds of soul music and R&B brought them together. Making the most of each other's uniqueness like African culture and flamenco, they created a completely new pop music. The novelty of their music attracts not only music fans but also musicians and dancers.
Esther Pulling from her deep gospel, soul and R&B roots in Kenya, Esther is bringing her unique musical background to Tokyo. Having already made her television debut in Japan, she is actively involved in the live music circuit. As the front woman for the duo Esther and Wataru and the band r101 session, her unique musical leanings add flare and fire to rousing performances.
Wataru is an experienced guitarist and musician whose career was nurtured in LA. He has supported recording and live shows for numerous artists with diverse musical styles, including ethnic music such as flamenco. He fuses his classical training with popular music influences to push the instrumentation into unprecedented territory while bringing the best out of Esther.
Nipe Asali is a pop song written in English and Swahili. Nipe means "give me" and asali is honey; Give me honey. We're all working hard to secure the lifestyle we want, and some of us are just barely getting by. Our frustrations can easily spill over into our interactions with others, and we end up barking at each other and forget to value one another. The song is imploring the listener to be a little sweeter, a little kinder. The song represents a decision to be kind to others whether or not that kindness is reciprocated.
