This instructional video by Scuba.com is an overview of how a diver adjustable and non-adjustable regulator works. The adjustable regulator has an adjustment knob on the side which directly effects how the diaphragm moves inside the regulator, and a venturi knob which regulates how the air circulates in the diaphragm.
