Peru: Illegal Gold Smuggling Rakes Huge Profits

An investigative report released by the NGO Public Eye indicates that major transnational mining companies have been raking in huge profits through smuggling gold out of the country. The 150 tons of gold that leave Peru as contraband each year translates into US$5 billion in illegal gross profits.
