South Carolina police release photo of suspect in Charleston church shooting

Police in Charleston have released pictures of a young man they believe is responsible for the church shootings which left nine people dead.

Police admit they have no idea where he is at present.

A manhunt is underway for the suspect. The public have been warned he is dangerous, and he is not to be approached.

Reverand Clementa Pinckney has been confirmed dead. A state senator, he is also the pastor of the targeted Emanuel African Methodist Church.

Police Chief Gregory Mullen said he believes the shooting was a hate crime.

Authorities have not yet identified the victims, or the shooter.

“The only reason someone could walk in a church and shoot people praying is that of hate, the only reason… That is the most dastardly act that one can possibly imagine. And we would bring that person to justice as soon as possible,” said the Mayor of Charleston, Joseph P. Riley Jr.

The church is known to have one of the largest and oldest black congregations in the region.
