Penguins of Madagascar - Reviewed in 60 Seconds

Penguins of Madagascar: Kowalski, Skipper, Rico, and Private join forces with animal secret agents The North Wind to stop the evil octopus Dave from getting his revenge against all of penguin-kind. I wouldn't use the words "hilarious" or "great" to describe Penguins, but I would certainly use "silly." It is a profoundly silly film. Penguins supports itself with rapid-fire jokes, visual gags, and charming points of self-awareness. It's definitely a kid's movie, but it stimulates just enough brain cells to keep parents from wanting to shoot themselves in the face before credits roll. Since the penguin characters were never constructed to be protagonists, they don't provide enough complexity to carry a very compelling story, but the writers did a pretty decent job with what they had. I don't see much of a need to go see Penguins unless you have kids - but be warned. When that DVD comes out, be prepared to watch it 2 or 3 hundred more times. Daily. So we're giving it 3 snow globes out of 5
