The plight of civilians in Darfur's forgotten conflict

The ongoing war in Sudan's Darfur region has fallen off the global media radar in recent years. But a new government offensive against rebel factions has resulted in up to 70,000 people fleeing the violence this year alone, according to the UN. Many have scattered into the bush or found sanctuary in caves. Klaas Van Dijken and Adriane Ohanesian visited the heart of rebel-held territory, an area so remote and volatile that it is unreachable by aid agencies and the UN.
