Ukraine: Border Controlled by Lugansk People’s Militia
  • 9 years ago
As part of a series of special reports from the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine, teleSUR’s special correspondent joined a brigade of around 100 international anti-fascist volunteers traveling into the area. Most of them are from Italy and Spain, but others hail from Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, and Turkey. After meeting at an airport in southern Russia near the border with Ukraine, they board a bus, where they are asked to turn off their cell phones. The buses take back roads until they get to a border checkpoint controlled by the People’s Militia of Lugansk in what used to be Ukrainian territory. The brigade’s convoy has an armed escort. In theory, a ceasefire is in place, but in the last few hours, there’ve been several clashes. The first stop is Lugansk City, where there is constant firing. The brigade spends the night in an improvised barracks, somewere in the East of the Ukraine. teleSUR
