Israel bank shooting: four people killed, gunman commits suicide

A gunman killed four people at a bank in the Israeli city of Beersheba on Monday.
According to Reuters, Itamar Alon entered the bank in the morning hoping to extend his credit line.
A Beersheba resident who served in the Border Police for his national service, Alon had a NIS 6,000 debt, the Jerusalem Post reported. When his withdrawal was refused, he exited the bank and tried to withdraw money from an ATM. After discovering he was unable to withdraw any, he later came back to the bank with a gun and shot four people dead.
Bank manager Avner Cohen and deputy manager Meir Zeitoun were shot first, both multiple times. Alon then killed customers Anat Even-Haim and Idan Schnitzer Sabari, according to the Jerusalem Post.
After the shooting, Alon took a female employee, Miriam Cohen, hostage and dragged her into the bathroom of the bank. She begged him not to harm her, she revealed in an interview. The gunman then asked her to turn around, but instead of shooting her, he killed himself. When the woman realized that he was dead, she fled the bathroom and was rescued by police.
According to the Jerusalem Post, five more people were injured in the shooting, one seriously and the four others were treated for shock.
Following the shooting, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu sent his condolences to the families of those killed, and called the incident a huge tragedy and a "terror attack."
