Valparaiso Chile: Two Student Protesters Shot Dead

Two students have been shot dead after a day of demonstrations demanding more participation in education reforms. The protests in several different cities began peacefully. In Santiago striking teachers joined around 150,000 students as they marched through the city’s center. The demonstrators are demanding real participation for social movements in drawing up the remaining reform laws. Clashes broke out in Santiago when riot police tried to disperse the crowds with water cannons. Two students were shot dead in the port city of Valparaiso. According to one version of the events, they were trying to hang a banner on a storefront when the owner came out and shot them. teleSUR
