Up to twenty people may have been killed after a military helicopter coming back from a rescue in Uttarakhand crashed.

According to reports, the Russian-built Mi-17V5 helicopter was on its way back to base after helping people stranded by serious flooding in Guptkashi and Kedarnath, which were battered by flash floods on June 15 and 16. The helicopter was carrying 20 rescue workers as it headed back to its temporary base in Gauchar, when it is said to have encountered bad weather conditions.

It crashed in difficult terrain north of Gaurikund, the Indian Express reported. The chopper was reported missing after midday. According to local media, only eight bodies have been recovered so far but all 20 passengers on board are feared to be dead.
