Gunman opens fire at Brooklyn party; nine injured

A gunman opened fire at a house party in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, early Sunday. About 60 people were gathered outside the house at around 1 a.m. when the gunman started shooting indiscriminately. Five women and four men were shot; reports say none of the victims were hit more than once. The shooter escaped the scene and is still at large.

Motives for the shooting are unclear, though a neighbor reported seeing a group of women leaving the party before the incident, saying there had been a fight and they thought the situation might escalate. Some reports also said the shooter opened fire after being refused entry to the party.

All of the victims are expected to recover, including one woman who had been listed in critical condition, but later stabilized.
