Texas Department of Public Safety officers were embroiled in two clashes with suspected criminals along the U.S.-Mexico border on Friday. In the first incident, Texas rangers went to the assistance of U.S. Border Patrol officers who were being fired upon by suspected criminals from Mexico. The Texas DPS officers lobbed tear gas across the border at the shooters, who then fled the scene.

Later the same day, the officers went to the assistance of compatriots who were embarking on an operation to seize a raft being used to cross the border and carry 1,100 pounds of marijuana. The passengers of the raft fled back to the Mexico border and exchanged several rounds of fire with U.S. troopers. No casualties were reported and no arrests were made.
