A 36-year-old ex-convict, Balamurali Balakrishnan, who was released from prison just last month was killed in the living of a house yesterday, according to The Star Online. The paper reports that a gunman walked into the living room of the home on Batu 9 Cheras in Kajang at around 1:40 p.m. and opened fire on the man, who was asleep on the sofa.

The victim's 56-year-old aunt, K. Najali, was in the bedroom when she heard the shots. She rushed out to find Balamurali was on the floor, dead from four gunshot wounds in the chest. She claims she saw the gunman fled the scene with an accomplice in a black car.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rashid Abdul Whahab said the case was the seventh shooting that has occurred in the country in the last seven days.

Balamurali was said to have been changing jobs regularly, with his last being as a security guard, which lasted only two weeks.

Balamurali's wife, S. Puvaneswari, 28, said her husband visited her and their four-year-old son in Seremban every two weeks, and that the last time she saw him was on Thursday night.
