A Virgin Australia plane reversed into a Jetstar aircraft at Melbourne Airport on August 10.

The incident occurred when the Virgin flight with 175 passengers on board was being pushed back on the tarmac in preparation for take-off about 9.30am. It was reported that the aircraft was pushed back to an extent that the end of its left-hand wing had cut off the tail cone of a stationary Jetstar aircraft. It is understood that the Jetstar aircraft only had flight crew on board at the time of the incident. No one was injured.

The Jetstar aircraft was significantly damaged and it was likely to be grounded for several days. It is estimated that the damage bill could be between $2 million to $3 million.
