Stupid criminals: idiots try coin theft with vacuum cleaner in Utah

Two men, Todd Herburg, 53, and Scott Luker, are the epitomes of stupid criminals. The pair was arrested in Salt Lake City, Utah after they tried to suck quarters out of a standalone vacuum cleaner at a car wash with a powerful shop vacuum.

The men had rigged their vehicle with an inverter in order to produce household power for the shop vacuum, then they used it to suck coins from the car wash's standalone machine. A passing police officer became suspicious when he noticed the license plates on the two men's Jeep SUV had been crudely altered so that that the D's looked like B's. The men had changed the letters using black electrical tape.

The two were at it for about 12 minutes before they were spotted. They weren't able to get away fast enough, and were arrested.

Authorities say they haven't counted up the total number of quarters the pair were able to extract, but the machine could have held more than $30.
