A logging truck slammed into a tourist train in West Virginia on Friday afternoon causing the death of the truck driver and injuring more than 60 people.

As Reuters reported, the train was about 50 minutes into its crawl through dense spruce forests in the high country wilderness when the collision occurred at 1:30 p.m. at a crossing on along U.S. Route 250 on Cheat Mountain, about 160 miles east of Charleston.

The train was carrying at least 60 passengers.

According to reports, the truck involved in the accident approached the level crossing but failed to stop.

"Signal lights at the train crossing were working properly and there were no skid marks on the roadway, said a person close to the investigation, who declined to be identified," Reuters reported.

The truck driver died in the collision. The Pocahontas Times identified him as Danny Kimble, of Durbin, W. Va.

Ten ambulances and one school bus were used to transport 67 people to local hospitals.

According to NBC News, three people are in critical condition while 18 in serious condition.

The train was carrying tourists on a day-long excursion through Appalachian spruce forests and mountain.
