Three girls escape years of abuse, captivity in Tucson, Arizona house

Three sisters were freed from almost two years in captivity and abuse after the two younger sisters managed to escape during an attack by their stepfather early on Tuesday morning (November 26), local police said on Wednesday.
At around 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, two sisters, aged 12 and 13, said their stepfather broke into their bedroom wielding a knife. They managed to run out to a neighbor's home, from where they called police.
When police arrived on the scene, they discovered a third 17-year-old sister still in a locked bedroom at their house. A towel was stuffed under the door, in an apparent attempt at soundproofing the room. Tape was also placed over the air duct systems.
Reports say the girls were subject to a constant barrage of loud music that was changed to static noise if they behaved. The oldest sibling was also held separately from her siblings, and police say the girl reacted as if they hadn't seen each other in a very long time when they were reunited.
The girls' stepfather, Fernando Richter, 34, and the mother, Sophia Richter, 32, were arrested and face charges of kidnapping, child abuse/emotional abuse and child abuse/physical abuse. The stepfather also faces counts of sexual abuse with a person younger than 15.
