Britons may be having less sex, but have become kinkier

New research has come out in the UK suggesting Britons may be choosing their iPads over their lovers. The study shows people in the 21st century only find enough time to have sex three times a month on average.

These figures come from the National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles (NATSAL) that are conducted every decade in the UK. In 2001 people reported having sex four times in the past four weeks on average, while in 1991 the figure was five times -- the last time the average was more than one session per week. The researchers believe the decline is due to the proliferation of mobile devices creeping in between the sheets; simply put, couples opting for a game of Angry Birds rather than the Horizontal Hokey-Pokey.

It's not all bad though because the study is also shows whenever folks can get a little quality time in, its become more creative and non-traditional. In 2000, fewer than 4% of British women aged 16-44 said they'd had any sexual experience or contact with a partner of the same sex. This time around, that number rose to 16%. By any measure, that's an enormous increase, more than doubling the reported rate among men. Even if you attribute most of it to changes in candour or interpretation, the willingness of so many women to admit to same-sex activity represents a big cultural shift. Instances of anal sex, sex amongst teens, and sex with multiple partners during one session has also risen.
