Lebanon car bomb: 4 killed, 30 injured

A car bomb exploded in Hermel, Lebanon on Thursday (January 16), killing four people and wounded 30 more.

According to the Daily Star, the blast took place near a government building in Sabreh Hamadeh square in central Hermel at about 9 a.m. The area is a Hezbollah stronghold. It was reported that the remains of a man were pulled out from the gutted car, which suggested the likelihood of it was a suicide attack. Press TV reported that there were two suicide attacker. AFP reported that two unidentified bodies were found and Authorities could not determine whether one of them was a suicide attacker.

The blast came on the same day as the trial in absentia began in the Hague of four Hezbollah members accused of murdering former prime minister Rafiq Hariri. The four members,Salim Jamil Ayyash, Mustafa Amine Badreddine, Hussein Hassan Oneissi and Assad Hassan Sabra are charged with planning the blast on Beirut's waterfront in 2005. All four remain at large.
