A video, recorded at a gay pride event, shows a Pittsburgh police officer Souroth Chatterji beating 19-year-old girl, Ariel Lawther.

Christian fundamentalists were protesting the celebration and arguing with a group of young attendees. Lawther was one of those attendees and was warned by police to calm down.

"We were talking and she was getting upset by the things we were saying," said the lead street preacher, Eric Moure, "She reached across and shoved me."

The video taken by Jenna Kenny shows little evidence of the alleged push prior to the the officer's approach. When Chatterji pulled the girl away, he says she punched and kicked him. The officer then grabbed the girl's hair and punched her several times in the stomach.

Lawther was taken away in handcuffs as Jenna Kenny finished the recording that she would later post to her Facebook page. She was arrested and charged with assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct but was later released on $5,000 bond.

Chatterji has been taken off street patrol as Pittsburgh officials decide whether the officer crossed the line.
