A burglar has been caught for not being too bright: he logged into Facebook during a home robbery, and then didn't sign out before taking off with his horde of stolen items.

James Wood returned to his home in South St. Paul, Minnesota, on June 19 to find it had been tossed.

His watch, cash, credit cards and cheque books, among other items, had been taken. Wood then noticed some additional items: soggy shoes, jeans and a belt had been left behind.

Not only did the thief leave behind personal items, but he also had a hankering to check up on his friends during the robbery, and had left his Facebook page open on Wood's computer.

Wood posted a message on the page, telling 26-year-old Nicholas Wig's friends that he was a thief, and left his phone number, asking people who know Wig to get in touch.

The next day, Wig himself called up Wood and they agreed to make an exchange of belongings later that night.

When Wig arrived, Wood called the police, and while Wig was still at his home, the police arrived.

Wig now faces up to 10 years in prison and will have to pay up to $20,000 in fines.

The selfie-loving thief has a previous burglary conviction and past arrests for domestic assault as well as pending drug charges.
