Safari travelers killed after tour bus crashes in river in Narok, Kenya

A tour bus crashed into a river near Narok, Kenya on Sunday night, killing two Australian tourists and injuring over a dozen other passengers.

The tourists had started their group tour with Melbourne-based Intrepid Travel on Saturday, September 6. The group traveling between Kenya and Tanzania when their bus’ right front tyre blew out, causing the vehicle to turn over the steep embankment along a river.

The two travelers killed in the crash were a man and a woman in their 60s. Twenty-five other travelers and tour staff from Australia, Kenya, Germany, Switzerland, United States, and Britain were hospitalised for fractures and head injuries.

The route has many dips and sharp bends. Police at the scene suggested the tyre burst was “likely to have been caused by something on the road, rather than due to poor tyre conditions.”
